NEWS AND UPDATES

LEFT THE RANGE

It is with a heavy heart that I must report the passing of Lynn McMurdo and his wife April McMurdo. April passed away on January 4th, after a 5-year battle with breast cancer. April had been Lynn’s wife, best friend and life partner for 34 years. Lynn passed away 8 days later on January 12th, of a broken heart, both literally and figuratively. Lynn had a history of heart disease, and had undergone coronary artery bypass surgery in 2000. He subsequently had multiple heart attacks, with a steady impairment of his heart function. He passed away quietly in his sleep, and I’m quite sure he was looking forward to joining April once again.

Lynn and April became involved with the FCSA in the late 1980’s, and were soon among the top competitors in the FCSA matches. Lynn joked that he figured he had to start leaving April at home, as she frequently beat him at the matches. Lynn served as FCSA President and for many years as a Director. He lead us as President for a second time after the death of Skip Talbot, to keep the FCSA moving forward as his close friend Skip had requested. April also stepped in to act as Editor of the VHP to fill Skip’s absence.

Lynn was instrumental in the development of ever improving bullets for FCSA competition, and spent innumerable hours testing various designs in his quest to find a better way. His bullets have likely won more matches and set more records than bullets of any other manufacturer.

Lynn was passionate about the FCSA, and at times may have seemed abrasive by some, but his heart was always set on “doing the right thing for the FCSA.” He was always humble regarding his own abilities, accomplishments and records, including the first 50-5X ever shot, which remains the record for light gun. He was quick to offer assistance to other competitors, and was a mentor to many a shooter, myself included. His sense of humor will also be missed by those who were close to him.

Lynn had stepped away from competition over the past few years, in part because of the loss of his dear friend Skip, his declining health, and to care for April. His love for the FCSA and shooting the big “50” however never wavered.

I was lucky to have them both as true friends, and I will miss them. ... Scott Nye
